The Esko Prague (and Czech linky S - "S-line"; in German-speaking part as S-Bahn Prague called) is a rail-bound transport modes of public transport in Prague and in the greater Prague- Central Bohemian Region . It has been operated by the Czech Railways (ČD) since the timetable change on December 9, 2007 . The exception is line S34, which is operated by "KŽC Doprava" with historical rolling stock. The lines are marked with the letter "S". In addition, there are express trains ( Rychlík in Czech , abbreviated "R") and express trains ( Spěšný vlak in Czech , abbreviated to "Sp") integrated into the network , which only stop at important stations and are marked with the line letter "R". The system partly corresponds to the S-Bahn systems common in German-speaking countries . Via the PID transport association ( Pražská integrovaná doprava ) there is a joint tariff with the transport company of the capital of Prague and the regional buses to the Prague area. Some routes or lines are not electrified.

33 lines (including 4 high-speed connections) serve a total of 295 stations in the 933 km long route network, 44 of which are in Prague. More than 110,000 passengers travel with the Esko every day.

vehicles

The 471 series ( CityElefant ) is used on the lines electrified with overhead lines . As a substitute, Regio Nova railcars of the 814.2 series operate.

Diesel railcars of the 814 “Regio Nova” , 854 and 810 series , as well as the 809 and the 812 prototype , are used on the lines whose routes are not fully electrified .

Important stations

Praha Masarykovo nádraží

Masaryk station is the only terminus in Prague. This is where seven of the Esko lines end (S1, S2, S4, S5, R5, S20 and S34). The train station is within walking distance of the city center. There are connections for the station Náměstí Republiky of Metro -line B, and for streetcar .

Praha hlavní nádraží

The main train station is the main long-distance train station in the city. Seven of the Esko lines (S3, R3, R4, S7, S8, S80 and S9) also operate here. There are transfer options to metro line C and also to tram lines and the bus line AE to the airport .

Praha-Smíchov

The station is in the southwest of the city. Here you can change to the Smíchovské nádraží metro station on metro line B as well as to tram and bus lines. The station is an important stop for trains going to Beroun and Pilsen. The trains on lines S6 and S7 stop here.

Praha-Vršovice

The station is located on the south-eastern approach to the main station in the district of the same name . Of the five lines (S3, R3, S8, S80 and S9) that serve this station, two end here (S8 and S80). Here, too, there are opportunities to change to bus and tram lines .

Praha-Holešovice

Until recently, the station was of particular importance in long-distance traffic, as it was before the completion of the Nové spojení due to its more favorable location instead of the main station by the through international long-distance trains on the north-south route ( Berlin - Dresden - Prague - Brno and on to Vienna or Bratislava and Budapest ) was approached. There is a possibility to change to metro line C, to tram and bus lines. In the Esko system, however, it is only served by the tangential line S41 and the express line R4.
