Pečky (German Petschek , older also Petschkau or Petzek ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located 14 kilometers northwest of Kolín and belongs to the Okres Kolín .

geography

Pečky is on the left side of the Výrovka on the Bohemian Table. The main railway line from Prague to Česká Třebová runs through Pečky . The route of the D 11 motorway runs north of the city, the next exit of which is in Vrbová Lhota .

Neighboring towns are Kostelní Lhota in the north, Vrbová Lhota in the northeast, Ratenice in the east, Cerhenice in the southeast, Dobřichov in the south, Radim and Chotutice in the southwest, Tatce in the west and Velké Chvalovice in the northwest.

history

On the basis of archaeological finds, there is evidence of a settlement in the Pečky area since the Neolithic Age . The village was first mentioned in documents in 1225.

Until the 19th century Pečky was an agricultural place. With the commissioning of the railway from Deutschbrod to Kolín by the Austrian Northwest Railway in 1870, the town's economic development began. In 1881 the branch line to Sasmuk was put into operation. In 1925 Pečky was promoted to town and has had a coat of arms since 1931.

The town of Pečky consists of the districts Pečky ( Petschek ) and Velké Chvalovice ( Groß Chwalowitz ).
