Location of the Okres Kolín

Okres Kolín ( German district Kolin ) is located in the eastern part of the Středočeský kraj . The relief of the district is flat to slightly wavy and rising from north to south. The lowest point is the surface of the Elbe in the north (187 m above sea level), in the fertile Elbe valley, the highest point is Skalka (516 m above sea level) near Kostelní Střímelice in the southwest of the district.

Around 90,500 inhabitants live in 89 municipalities on 744 km², 51% of them in the cities of Český Brod , Kolín , Kouřim , Pečky , Týnec nad Labem and Zásmuky . The average age is 40.2, the highest value in the district.

The character of the district can be described as industrial-agricultural, characterized by medium-sized companies in various sectors. The main industries are electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemicals and printing. The largest employer is the car manufacturer TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile). In agriculture, cereals and sugar beets are intensively grown, in some cases also vegetables and fruit.

51.6% of the population is employed, the largest part (27.2%) in industry. Here, as in agriculture (−10% in recent years), the proportion of employees is falling, while it is increasing in the construction industry and in the services sector. The average wage is 15,998 crowns, which is 8% below the national average. Unemployment is 10.2%, the second highest value in the district. Relaxation is expected after the completion of the TPCA, which is expected to employ over 2500 people.
