Lipany (German Lipan ) is a district of the municipality Vitice in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers northwest of Kouřim and belongs to the Okres Kolín .

Lipany is located in the Central Bohemian Uplands at the northern foot of the Lipská hora ( Lipska , 367 m).

Neighboring towns are Chrášťany and Chotouň in the north, Kubšovka and Vrbčany in the north-east, Miškovice in the east, Borek, Třebovle and Hlaváčova Lhota in the south-east, Království and Dobré Pole in the south, Močedník in the south-west, Vitice and Hřiby in the north-west and Byl.

history

The first written mention of Lipany took place in 1360 as the seat of the Vladiken family of Lipanský from Lipany. On May 30, 1434, the decisive battle of the Hussite Wars between the radical Hussites under Andreas Prokop and Jan Čapek ze Sán and the alliance of imperial and Utraquists took place on the Lipská hora, which went down in history as the Battle of Lipan .

After the abolition of patrimonial Lipany formed a district of the political municipality Vitice in the Bohemian Brod district from 1850 . From 1878 Lipany formed its own municipality. Lipany has belonged to Okres Kolín since 1961 . In 1972 it was incorporated into Vitice. In 1991 the place had 114 inhabitants. In 2001 the village consisted of 45 houses in which 96 people lived. On the last Saturday in May, a procession to the Lipská hora is held in Lipany .

  • Lipská hora, lookout point; Since 1881 there has been an 11 m high memorial on the hill, which commemorates the Battle of Lipan. In 1990 the monument was restored.
