Český Brod ( German Bohemian Brod ) is a town with around 6,600 inhabitants in the Czech Republic . It is located in Central Bohemia , about 30 km east of Prague on the Šembera and belongs to the Okres Kolín .

history

St. Gotthard Church in Český Brod

On May 30, 1434, a battle of the Hussite Wars took place here, in which the Taborites were defeated by a coalition of moderate Utraquists and Catholics of the early Church. The monument to the Battle of Lipan , in which Andreas Prokop was killed , was erected in 1881 near the village of Lipany .

Böhmisch Brod ( Brod translated means ford ) was the capital of the district, and in 1860 there were 71 villages in the district. It was the seat of the district administration and a district court. In 1880 there were 3,841 inhabitants in the city. There were two sugar factories, an alcohol distillery and a steam mill. In the 1870s , boreholes were made in coal seams to a depth of 1,000 m.
