history

The first mention of the village Svojšice was made in historical sources in 1241. In the 17th century Svojšice developed into the center of a small manor that included four other villages. In 1738 the estate was acquired by the Counts of Althann , who had the originally one-story baroque palace rebuilt in rococo style. An extensive library was set up in the castle under Josef von Althann and in 1847 the residence was given its present form. After the abolition of patrimonial Svojšice formed a political municipality in the Kolín district from 1850. The castle remained in the possession of the Althann family until 1923, when it was bought by the Congregatio Jesu .
