Several sand pits are operated on the Pískový vrch hill there and east of the village. The D 11 / European route 67 runs north of the village, and the next exit 25 Sadská is also there .

Neighboring towns are Třebestovice and Vycherov in the northeast, Milčice in the east, Hořany and Žhery in the southeast, Klučov in the south, Štolmíř in the southwest, Kounice in the west and Horky and Chrást in the northwest.

history

Archaeological finds show the first settlement in the Neolithic . A Slavic settlement existed since the 8th century. The first written mention of the village took place in 1295. A fortified church has been documented since the 14th century, and in 1358 it was elevated to a parish church. A parish school was also established. In 1414 the estate belonged to the Olbramovice family and from 1430 to the Vochek von Poříčany squire. In 1547 he fought alongside Dionis Slavata of Chlum in the uprising against the Habsburgs. Ferdinand I confiscated his property and added Poříčany to the Black Costeletz rule . In 1558 the king sold the rule to Jaroslav Smiřický of Smiřice . In 1626 the guardian of Jiří Smiřický, Albrecht von Waldstein, sold the rule to Charles I of Liechtenstein . During the Thirty Years' War the parish in Poříčany remained vacant and was later discontinued. Several peasant revolts then broke out in the area. In 1680 farmers besieged Kaunitz Castle and in 1775 that in Schwarzkosteletz.

The church in Poříčany became very dilapidated in the first half of the 18th century. Maria Theresa of Savoy, Princess of Liechtenstein, had the dilapidated building demolished and a new church built in its place in 1750, which was then expanded to include a rectory. At the end of the 18th century the rural village consisted of 45 houses. In 1840 the village had 487 inhabitants. The construction of the Emperor Ferdinand's Northern Railway from Vienna via Olomouc to Prague brought the village a connection to the railway network in 1845. Poříčany became a transshipment point for agricultural products and expanded.

After the abolition of subordination in 1848, the Liechtensteiners' interest in the village waned more and more, and they continued to take church patronage until 1945. From 1850 Poříčany formed a municipality in the Český Brod district . In 1865 the road from Český Brod via Klučov and Poříčany to Sadská was built. In the previously rural town, handicraft businesses were increasingly emerging. By 1880 the population had grown to 860. After the population approached more and more of 1000, in 1882 the community representatives discussed a survey of the minority town , but a decision was not made. In 1882, the Bohemian Commercial Railways built the local railway from Poříčany to Nymburk , which was then continued to Bakov nad Jizerou and Jičín . The Poříčany station on the main line of the state railway from Prague via Pardubice to Vienna was expanded into a train station in 1900. Growth also continued in the 20th century, with 100 single-family houses built between 1922 and 1930 alone. In 1910 the new cemetery was laid out on the road to Hořany.

Between 1953 and 1963, the main railway line was electrified. In 1961 the parish came to Okres Nymburk and since 1996 it belongs to Okres Kolín . In 1991 there were 1271 people in Poříčany. In 2000 the station was renovated. Since 2007 Poříčany has been served by Esko Prague on the S1 Praha Masarykovo nádraží - Kolín and S12 Poříčany– Nymburk routes.
