Location of the Okres Nymburk

Okres Nymburk (German: District Nimburg ) is a district in the eastern part of the Středočeský kraj , in the Elbe plain , at an altitude between 170 and 300 meters. Around 86,000 inhabitants live on 876 km² in 87 municipalities , 55% of which are in the seven towns of Nymburk , Poděbrady , Lysá nad Labem , Městec Králové , Sadská , Milovice and Rožďalovice .

In the past, Nymburk was an agricultural area. The industry only settled after it was connected to the railway network. Mechanical engineering, the food industry, rubber processing and the glass industry have a long tradition in the district. The largest employer is the BOHEMIA glass factory. In agriculture, grain, sugar beet, vegetables and fruit are traditionally grown.

The proportion of the working population is 52%, of which 26% in industry and just under seven percent in agriculture. The average wage is 15,045 kroner below that of the region. The unemployment rate is 9.1%.

Attractions

In addition to some sights, the district primarily attracts spa guests.

  • In Poděbrady, heart diseases and defects in the musculoskeletal system are cured. Next to it is the Poděbrady Castle , built in the 13th century, where the Bohemian ruler Jiří z Poděbrad was born.
  • Nymburk has an interesting city wall with bastions from the 14th century
  • In Lysá nad Labem there is a beautiful baroque palace garden and a baroque parish with a church.
  • Přerov nad Labem is known for its Elbe Nature Museum.
  • Libice nad Cidlinou was the seat of the famous Slavicids .
  • There are also six nature parks in the district.

On January 1, 2007, the place Vrbová Lhota from the Okres Kolín was added and the communities Choťovice , Pňov-Předhradí , Tatce and Žehuň moved there.
