Záhornice (German Zahornitz , also Sahornitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located five kilometers north of Městec Králové and belongs to the Okres Nymburk .
geography
Záhornice is located in the southern foothills of the Jičínská pahorkatina on the Záhornický brook. To the west is the valley of the Štítarský potok with the reservoirs Pustý rybník and Jakubský rybník.
Neighboring towns are Malá Strana and Nová Ves in the north, Dubečno in the north-east, Kněžice in the east, Nový Dvůr and Sloveč in the south-east, Vinice in the south, Velenice in the south-west, Poušť and Dymokury in the west and Nouzov in the north-west.
history
The first written mention of the village was made in 1225 in a document by Ottokar I Přemysl on the hereditary transfer of the village of Vesce to the city of Hradec Králové , in which a Riuin de Zahornic appeared as a witness. Záhornice belonged from the middle of the 14th century to the possessions of the Carthusian monastery Poděbrady. After the Hussite Wars , the Kopidlno Straník owned the place. Subsequently, Záhornice was added to the Dymokury estate . In the 16th century Johanna, widowed Haugwitz von Biskupitz, owned the Záhornice farm. The village and the Vorwerkshof were attached to the goods in Chotěšice in the late 16th century . In 1585 a feud broke out between John the Younger from Waldstein and Jan Charbusický from Poděbrady over the Záhornice farm. Nikolaus von Gersdorff acquired Záhornice in 1617. As a rebel, his property was confiscated after the Battle of White Mountain in 1621 and Záhornice was added to the Dymokury rule.
The flax market in Záhornice was very important in the 18th century and closed in 1848. In 1836 a fire destroyed large parts of Záhornice at Christmas.
After the abolition of patrimonial Záhornice formed from 1850 with the district Poušť a municipality in the Poděbrady district . On June 17, 1899, 28 buildings in the village were destroyed by fire. In 1902, Count Czernin von Chudenitz had a narrow-gauge beet railway built for his Dymokury sugar factory. The 600 mm track was extended to Mezihájí in 1904 and finally expanded to Velenice , Chotěšice and Sekeřice. In 1931 the Dimokur Beet Railway ran a distance of 27.8 km. In 1959 the railway was shut down. At the beginning of 1961 the community came to Okres Nymburk. In 1970 the village, consisting of 270 houses, had 669 inhabitants. Between 1980 and 1990 Záhornice was incorporated into Chotěšice .
