Mcely (German Mzell , older also Mutzel ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 13 kilometers north of Nymburk and belongs to the Okres Nymburk .
geography
Mcely is on the southern slope of Loučenský hřbet on the East Bohemian Table. The village lies in the headwaters of the Křinecká Blatnice. The hill Holoviska (247 m) rises to the east. To the north extends the extensive forest area of Svatojiřský les ( St. George's Forest ).
Neighboring towns are Ledce in the north, Seletice , Košík and Doubravany in the north-east, Žitovlice and Pojedy in the east, Sovenice in the south-east, Mečíř and Jíkev in the south, Studečky in the south-west, Studce and Chudíř in the west and Charvatce and Jabkenice in the north-west.
history
Mcely was first mentioned in writing in 1252 in the deed of donation by Frederick of Comotau to the Teutonic Knights Order of Comotau , in which Lutobor de Mocl appeared as one of the 18 witnesses.
In the second half of the 14th century the village came into spiritual possession. 1471 pledged Georg von Podiebrad Mcely to Jan Křinecký von Ronov. After the Battle of White Mountain in 1622, the goods belonging to Jiří Křinecký von Ronov were confiscated. In 1623 Albrecht von Waldstein bought Mcely and in the same year handed it over to his cousin Adam the Elder. J. von Waldstein , who added it to his Dětenice estate . From 1672 he was followed by Octavian Ladislav von Waldstein, who had the castle built in 1698. Via his daughter Anna Barbara, who inherited the rule in 1711, Mcely got to her second husband Karl Josef Batthyány . Batthyány sold Dětenice with the associated villages in 1760 to Johann Christian Clam-Gallas . In 1797 the kk colonel and fortress commander of Theresienstadt Jakob Wimmer became the owner of the estate. In followed Johann Philipp Wessenberg and Philipp Boos of Waldeck .
After the abolition of patrimonial Mcely formed a parish in the Poděbrady district from 1850 . In 1869 the Princes Thurn and Taxis bought the castle and the goods from Philipp Boos and added them to their large Dobrovice estate. In 1899 a narrow-gauge beet railway was built, which led from Mečíř to the Vlkava sugar factory . Since 1934 the community belongs to Okres Nymburk .

Attractions
- Gothic Church of St. Wenceslas, built at the beginning of the 14th century and documented since 1352, has been rebuilt several times. There is a massive, free-standing bell tower in the cemetery next to the church.
- Mcely Castle, the hunting castle built in 1698 on the Vinice hill above the village for Octavian Ladislav von Waldstein, was surrounded by a 5 hectare zoo. In 1840 the single-storey building was converted. In 1863 the building was extended by two three-storey side wings. Since the 1930s, the castle has been deteriorating and in 1938 one of the side wings had to be demolished due to static defects. After the Second World War, the castle belonging to the Princes Thurn and Taxis was confiscated and nationalized by the Beneš decrees . It then served u. a. as a depot of the Civilní ochrana (civil defense). Since 2001, the castle has belonged to the married couple Inéz and James A. Cusumano, who renovated the ruinous castle and opened the castle hotel "Chateau Mcely" in it in 2006.
- The Čtvrtě nature reserve, the 95.29 hectare area with the Zadník and Dymáček ponds, has been protected as an NPR since 1989
- Marian column at the top of the village square. The column used to be a place of pilgrimage, and the legend of Mcely's miracle grows around it.
- Rectory, the baroque building was built in 1777 under the counts of Clam-Gallas .
