history

The first written mention of Žitovlice took place in 1352. In 1371 the village was the seat of Vladiken Štěpán and Zdeněk from Žitovlice. The existence of a parish church has been documented since that time. Two years later the goods belonged to Jan Verdek from Žlunice and from 1404 again to a Zdeněk from Žitovlice. Subsequently, the Žitovlický from Slivno and the Trčka from Lípa owned the place. After the church fire in 1618, Albrecht Trčka had a new wooden church built. During the Thirty Years' War the parish became extinct and Žitovlice was parish off to Rožďalovice. In 1757 the church collapsed. Aloisius Clam-Gallas , the owner of the Rožďalovice estate, to which Žitovlice belonged at that time, had a new baroque church built.

The residents lived from agriculture. Since the 19th century some of them worked in the Rožďalovice sugar factory. After the abolition of patrimonial Zittaulic formed with the district Pojed from 1850 a municipality in the Jičín district . From 1898 Pojedy formed its own community. In 1961 Žitovlice came to Okres Nymburk , at the same time Pojedy was incorporated. In the 1980s, Žitovlice became a tourist resort for Prague residents.
