history
The village was first mentioned in writing in 993. The Romanesque church was built in the middle of the 13th century and redesigned in Gothic style about a hundred years later. At the beginning of the 17th century, Maria Magdalena von Lobkowicz acquired the Bříství estate and joined it to the Kounice estate .
After the abolition of patrimonial Bříství formed a municipality in the Český Brod district from 1850 . Since 1961 the community belongs to Okres Nymburk. After the construction of the motorway, the character of the village changed. Urban houses were built in the center of the village, which was previously characterized by farmsteads. At the same time, the landscape began to sprawl. Bříství today consists of 150 houses.
