Městec Králové (German Königstädtel , also Königstadtl ) is a town in the Středočeský kraj region ( Czech Republic ). The city is located on a plain, surrounded by forests with nature-protected trees that are more than a hundred years old. The area is largely agricultural.

history

According to tradition, Městec Králové was the birthplace of Prince Přemysl Otakar I. Under the rule of the Přemyslid Břetislav II there was already a princely summer palace in the area, surrounded by deep forests with plenty of game. Under the Přemyslids the place was called Königsfeld . The fortified city was built in the 13th century on the trade route from Hradec Králové to Prague . By Charles IV. Königsstädtel were given city rights and he handed it over as a fiefdom to his wife Anna von Schweidnitz . His son Wenceslas IV is named in the city's chronicles as its patron.

In 1373 Anna handed over her rights to Peter von Wartenberg and food , after which there was a lively change of town owners. During the Hussite Wars , the city was burned down and utterly impoverished. In the 16th century the royal town belonged to Jan Trčka from Lípa on Lipnice .

In 1544 the inhabitants revolted against their masters. This was suppressed and the inhabitants were severely punished by King Vladislav II . During the reign of Rudolf II , Königsstädtel was sold to the royal chamberlain Burian Trčka von Lípa for 3,000 thalers. In 1610 there was a great fire, the consequences of which were bearable thanks to the help of the surrounding villages.

The city was destroyed again during the Thirty Years War , followed by a new fire in 1680, which largely destroyed the city, as did the fire on September 5, 1746, when half of the city burned down. In 1775 the inhabitants took part in the peasant uprising, which was put down again and a year later the town suffered again from a conflagration.
