Libice nad Cidlinou (German: Libitz an der Cidlina ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers southeast of Poděbrady and belongs to the Okres Nymburk .

history

The St. Adalbert Church

Libice is located at the mouth of the Cidlina and the Elbe . According to archaeological excavations, it is assumed that a castle wall was built on the two river terraces at the end of the 8th century and that the castle site was subsequently changed several times. After 950 it served as the residence of the Slavnikids , who had their own coins minted in Libice since 980. Since the Slavnikids struggled with the Přemyslids for political influence and thus for supremacy in Bohemia , they were forcibly exterminated in Libice by Přemyslid supporters in 995.

In 1108 Přemyslid Svatopluk II murdered members of the Wrschowetz family in Libice .

In the 13th century, Libice belonged as a subordinate village to the George Monastery at Prague Castle . In the centuries that followed, the owners changed frequently. Among them were the Bohemian King George of Podebrady and his son Heinrich the Elder. J. von Munsterberg .

In 1850 Libice became an independent municipality. In 1872 it received a railway connection with a stop that was expanded into a train station in 1896. In 1885 a new school building was built. An economic boom began with the settlement of smaller industrial companies. This also increased the population. In 1827 there were 487, in 1900 953 inhabitants.
