Loučeň (German Lautschin , older also Luschen ) is a Městys in the Nymburk district in the Czech Republic . It is located 11 kilometers north of Nymburk and belongs to the Středočeský kraj region .

history

Loučeň was first mentioned in 1223 when a Přeslav z Loučně appeared as a witness on a deed of donation from the Prague bishop Pilgrim . In the 14th century, the place was probably divided, because the patronage right of the local parish church belonged to several Vladiken . In 1376 Zdeněk z Nadslavě na Kopidlně was the sole owner of the village; since then Loučeň has been run as a closed estate. It belonged to local lords, at the beginning of the 16th century Mr. Ronow and Mr. Biberstein , from 1612 the Berka von Dubá and from 1623 Adam von Waldstein and his descendants. From the 17th century Loučeň together with the neighboring village Dobrovice formed a large manor whose last owner from the Waldstein family, Maria Theresa, bequeathed the estate to her son Karl Egon von Fürstenberg in 1756 . In 1809 Loučeň finally came to the Bohemian line of Thurn and Taxis , which owned it until the end of World War II in 1945. In 1899 a narrow-gauge beet railway was built, which led from Mečíř to the Vlkava sugar factory . The poet Rainer Maria Rilke spent the summer of 1910 after completing his novel The Notes of Malte Laurids Brigge at the invitation of his princely patron Marie von Thurn und Taxis at Lautschin Castle.

The status of Městys was granted to Loučeň in 1906 and then again on October 10, 2006.

Attractions

Instead of the manor house mentioned for the first time in 1571 , Ernst von Waldstein had Franz Maximilian Kaňka build a baroque castle from 1704–1713 . It has three wings and is one story; the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary leans against the left wing. From 1828 an English landscape park was built around the castle building .

After nationalization in 1945, the castle served as a training center and boarding school from 1949. The Thurn and Taxis family's request for restitution in the 1990s was rejected. The Loučeň as joint stock company has been the new owner since 2000. On July 7, 2007, the externally restored chateau has been open to the public again. The original interior was completely removed or destroyed after 1945. The new exhibition shows a collection of furniture and furnishings that are intended to imitate the appearance of the castle at the beginning of the 20th century, at the time of the last owners Alexander and Marie von Thurn und Taxis. Several labyrinths have been created in the park . The former administration building was converted into a hotel.

The church building is owned by the Roman Catholic Church. In contrast to the castle, the interior of the church has been preserved and has not been restored.

Community structure

In addition to Loučeň itself, the municipality includes the villages of Patřín, Studce and Studečky.
