Pilgrim (also: Pilgrim von Prag ; † January 8 or 25, 1240, presumably in Prague ) was Bishop of Prague .

Life

His date of birth and his origin are not known. He was canon of Prague and provost of Mělník . At the request of King Ottokar I Přemysl , the Prague cathedral chapter elected Bishop Andreas Pilgrim's successor after the death of Bishop Andreas Pilgrim. As early as June 1, 1223, Pilgrim, as bishop, confirmed a donation to the Benedictine monastery of Vilémov. He was ordained bishop by Metropolitan Siegfried II of Eppstein from Mainz on October 1, 1223.

Since it was apparently neglected to obtain the papal confirmation before the consecration, Pope Honorius III recognized. the election and demanded a new election in 1224, in which, in addition to the cathedral chapter, the Cistercian abbots of Nepomuk and Ossegg and the Olomouc bishop Robert should take part. In addition, the Elekt Pilgrim in Rome should face a review by the Curia . The corresponding letter was sent to the Archbishop of Mainz and the King of Bohemia. Since they did not react, the Pope reprimanded the metropolitan on March 20, 1225 for the unjustified episcopal ordination and reserved a punishment for himself. At the same time he demanded that Pilgrim be released by September 29th. J. had to appear in Rome. Pilgrim then traveled to Rome, accompanied by canons, at the turn of the year 1225/26, where he renounced his diocese.

Pilgrim retained the episcopal title, remained canon of Prague and provost of Mělník and continued to take part in liturgical services. On May 10, 1237 he assisted the Archbishop of Mainz Siegfried III in Erfurt . von Eppstein at the consecration of Bishop Bernhard from Prague . He supported the Dominicans and donated the village of Koryčany to the Prague Chapter.

In 1227 Pope Gregory IX recognized. Pilgrim a financial compensation, which his successor John II of Dražice had to pay to Pilgrim annually. Pilgrim probably died in Prague and was buried in the St. Clement Church of the Dominican monastery.
