Hizzo

Hizzo († January 30, 1030 ; also Hyzo , Hyza or Izzo ) was Bishop of Prague .

Hizzo entered the Břevnov Benedictine monastery as a monk at a young age . He was later appointed to the Prague cathedral chapter , where he soon rose to become provost .

After the death of Prague bishop Ekkehard , Hizzo was elected as his successor. He received the episcopal ordination on December 29, 1023 in Bamberg by the Mainz Metropolitan Aribo . Hizzo is said to have been very charitable. He cared for the poor, the sick and the prisoners.
