Gregor von Waldek (also: Gregor von Waldeck , Czech: Řehoř Zajíc z Valdeka ; * around 1235 ; † September 6, 1301, presumably in Prague ) was Bishop of Prague .

Career

Gregory had been a scholar of the Prague cathedral chapter from around 1270 , the chapter school of which was flourishing at that time. From 1277 he held the office of cathedral dean and in this position in 1278 negotiated the papal confirmation and episcopal ordination of Bishop Tobias von Bechyně . It was not until March 8, 1282, that Gregory was ordained a priest by Bishop Bechyně.

Bishop of Prague

At the suggestion of the provost Johann von Sadská , the Prague cathedral chapter elected Gregor von Waldek to succeed the late Bishop Bechyně in 1296. On behalf of the Mainz bishop Gerhard von Eppstein , to whose church province Bohemia and Moravia belonged, the Olomouc bishop Theoderich von Neuhaus brought the papal confirmation and also carried out the episcopal ordination.

Numerous documents have been received from Gregor's tenure. He took part in the coronation of King Wenceslas II and was present at the subsequent laying of the foundation stone of the Königsaal monastery church. For the first time, a permanent official for court affairs has been appointed for his term of office . After his death he was buried in St. Vitus Cathedral.
