Nikolaus Puchník von Černice ( Czech : Mikuláš Puchník z Černic ; † 1402 in Poděhusy in Bohemia ) was church lawyer and rector of the University of Prague , long-time vicar general in the Archdiocese of Prague , and was appointed Archbishop of Prague at the end of his life , but no longer in office introduced.

Life

Nikolaus came from a noble family from the area of ​​Horaždovice, was canon in Olomouc and canon of Mělník and until 1385 pastor of Hartvíkovice. As a licentiate in canon law ( licentiatus in decretis ) he taught from 1373 to 1393 at the University of Prague, of which he was rector from 1389 to 1390. During this time he wrote the procedural law reference work Processus judiciarius secundum stilum Pragensem .

In addition, he held the office of vicar general of Prague Archbishop Johann von Jenstein (a. 1378-1396) from 1383 and was at the same time official of the archbishopric until 1394 . Since 1385 he was a canon member of the Prague cathedral chapter . From 1391 to 1396 he owned the parish of St. Nicholas in Prague's Old Town and later exchanged this parish for the canons of St. George in Prague Castle and the collegiate monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Vyšehrad .

As vicar general, he was interrogated and tortured in March 1393 on the orders of King Wenceslaus IV, together with his subsequently drowned colleague Johannes von Pomuk and left the city. After his return to office in August 1395, he also remained vicar general under Johann's successor Olbram von Škvorec and after his death was at the request of the Hungarian King Sigismund of Luxembourg on July 26, 1402 by Pope Boniface IX. himself appointed Archbishop of Prague. He did not live to take office because he died before his episcopal ordination . He was buried in St. Vitus Cathedral.
