New Years Eve (Prague)
Sylvester († February 10, 1161 ) was elected bishop of Prague .
Sylvester was the abbot of the Benedictine monastery in Sazau . At the request of Duke Soběslav I , he was elected as his successor after the death of Bishop John I of Prague .
After his patron Duke Soběslav I died on February 14, 1140, Sylvester, who had not yet received the episcopal ordination , renounced the episcopate on the 17th of the month. He feared political unrest in the future, which he believed he could not handle. He spent the last years of his life in a monastery and died there on February 10, 1161.
