DIN A Testbild is a West Berlin underground band from the late 1970s that is still active today. DIN A Testbild are considered to be one of the driving forces behind the West Berlin expressive music avant-garde and later techno wave.

history

The band was founded by Mark Eins and Gudrun Gut in 1978. The first single was released in 1979 with the title Abfall / Garbage . The debut album was released in 1980 with the title Programm 1 on Klaus Schulze's label Innovative Communication . The band is considered to have had a musical influence on the time of the Neue Deutsche Welle and the Berlin avant-garde. Appearances in SO36 1978 in Berlin-Kreuzberg (Wall Festival to commemorate the construction of the Berlin Wall on August 13, 1961), organizer: Martin Kippenberger , and in the Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf. At the Geniale Dilletanten festival in Berlin's Tempodrom on September 4, 1980, with bands such as Einstürzende Neubauten , Die Tödliche Doris and Frieder Butzmann , DIN A Testbild is represented with the title Satisfactory . A contract with the Klaus Schulze record label Innovative Communication and tours through Germany and Europe followed.

In the 1980s, DIN A Testbild composed the score for Rosa von Praunheim's feature film Rote Liebe and for the short film Ginger Hel by David Vostell . Mark Eins played the male lead in both films.

In 2005 DIN A Testbild consisted of Nutty Norman, Ralf Zimmermann and the founder Mark Eins, who in 2006 sent the Internet-independent label Testbild Music online to publish archive material, new productions and works by artist friends. The label's first production was the album Programm 5 / Sample Attack , with which the band continued the program series that had started in the early 1980s. The beats, synthesizers, trashy guitar riffs and the vocals mixed into an electro experimental sound collage in fast sequences to digital punk . The creation of acoustic images is a musical concept and a basic idea. Live, expressive performance is a stylistic device. As is customary in the music industry, titles from sound carriers are not recited and repeated over and over again. Every appearance remains unique, develops and is designed with new facets every time.

In 2009 DIN A Testbild (DAT) signed a contract with the Hamburg music label Bureau B and in 2010 released the album Programm 6 Collage . In addition to Mark Eins, Nutty Norman and Ralf Zimmermann as well as Axel Brand were involved. Guitarist Gerrit Meijer from the band PVC and singer Bettina Schoch were involved as guest musicians . The album plays through without a break; there come u. a. a number of analog instruments are used, the most noticeable being the "trashy" guitar. In 2017 Mannequin Records released Program 4 .

To mark the 40th anniversary of DIN A Testbild 2018, the Japanese Suezan Studio is releasing a special edition of the DIN A Testbild program series and the first single Abfall / Garbage.

In 2019, Mark Eins, together with Tom Paschke, will publish the DIN A Testbild Album Programm 7, an expressive, avant-garde sound collage made up of fast rhythms, interwoven and superimposed acoustic images.
