The Vlkava (German Wlkawa-Bach ) is a small right tributary of the Elbe ( Czech Labe ) in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic .

The source of the Vlkava situated at an altitude of 255 m at the municipality Ledce in Mladá Boleslav ( Jungbunzlau ) on the Czech panel. The outflow is initially in a westerly direction, south of Dobrovice the water turns south, flows through Čachovice , Zbožíčko and Kostomlaty nad Labem ( Groß Kostomlat ) in Okres Nymburk and flows southwest of this municipality into the Elbe after a run of 35.6 km. The discharge is 0.61 m³ / s.

Hydronymy

The river name could be translated as Wolfsbach (derived from Czech Vlk = wolf ).
