history

Protestant church

Opolely was first mentioned in writing in 1228, when the village, along with Libice nad Cidlinou , Kanín and Oldříš, belonged to the Benedictine monastery of St. George at Prague Castle . In the Hussite Wars Opolany came into secular hands in 1420 and was pledged in 1437 by Emperor Sigismund to Georg von Podebrady , who added it to his rule Podebrady . Georg of Podebrady had the Sánský kanál built around 1450 , which served to supply water to the Podebrady fish ponds, especially the Bláto. In 1487 Opolany became part of the Kolín domain, along with Kanín and Sány .

In 1843, the rustic village of Unter-Opolan or Groß-Opolan , called Dolnj Opolanj or Welky Opolanj , in the Kauřim district , consisted of 51 houses in which 361 people, including 24 Protestant and one Jewish family, lived. A house built on emphyteutized peasant land belonged to the Poděbrad domain . 32 houses formed the location Podbřezy. There was a school and an inn in the village. The Catholic parish was Saan ; the place of office was Kaisersdorf . Sub-Opolan remained subordinate to Kolín until the middle of the 19th century .

After the abolition of patrimonial Veliké Opolany / Groß Oppolan formed a municipality in the judicial district of Königstadtl from 1849 . 1862 acquired Franz Horsky the manorial Kolin from the heirs of Baron Wenceslas Veith. Horsky immediately initiated a modernization of agriculture. From 1868 the village belonged to the Poděbrad district . In 1870 the railway from Groß Wossek to Wostromer started operating . At the end of the 19th century, the names Velké Opolany and Dolné Opolany were also used. On January 1, 1961, the community came to Okres Nymburk, at the same time Kanín, Opolánky and Oškobrh were incorporated.

The D 11 motorway , which was opened to traffic on the section to Hradec Králové on December 20, 2006 , runs across the corridors of Kanín . At the beginning of 2008 the municipality had 838 inhabitants, of whom 428 lived in Opolany, 187 in Kanín, 162 in Opolánky and 61 in Oškobrh.
