The railway line Velký Osek – Trutnov is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Österreichische Nordwestbahn (ÖNWB). It begins in Velký Osek and leads via Chlumec nad Cidlinou and Stará Paka ( Alt Paka ) to Trutnov ( Trautenau ). Between Velký Osek and Chlumec nad Cidlinou, the line is part of the international long-distance route Prague - Hradec Králové - Miedzylesie - Wroclaw .

The route is part of the national network ("celostátní draha").

history

Opening dates:

  • Trautenau – Parschnitz: October 29, 1870
  • Groß Wossek – Wostromer and Pelsdorf – Trautenau: December 21, 1870
  • Wostromer – Pelsdorf: June 1, 1871

After the nationalization of the ÖNWB, the line was transferred to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on January 1, 1908 . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place .

After the Sudetenland became part of Germany in autumn 1938, the line between Märzdorf and Parschnitz came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . In the Reich curriculum , the connection was now included as KBS 155f Ruhbank and Merzdorf (Rsgb) –Landeshut – Königshan (–Schatzlar) –Trautenau (–Freiheit-Johannisbad) –Pelsdorf (–Marchdorf [Böhmen]) - Hohenelbe. The remainder of the line remained in operation by the Protectorate Railways of Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On October 6, 1940, they opened the connecting curve Velký Osek - Kanín, which since then has enabled trains to travel from Prague to Eastern Bohemia without changing direction. After the end of the Second World War , the route was completely returned to the ČSD.

Express train Kolín – Trutnov in Smidary (2005)

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Until the beginning of the 1990s, long-distance trains also ran on the route, for example between Prague and Trutnov or Svoboda nad Úpou . Today (2019) the Kolín – Velký Osek – Trutnov connection is served by an express train connection every two hours. In addition, the route between Velký Osek and Chlumec nad Cidlinou is used by the express trains from Prague to Hradec Králové (sometimes further to Trutnov), but they only stop in Chlumec nad Cidlinou. Passenger trains run roughly every two hours on the routes Městec Králové – Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Stará Paka and Vrchlabí –Kunčice nad Labem – Trutnov. Individual trains serve the Trutnov – Sędzisław route in Poland on weekends in summer.

In connection with the expansion of the Prague – Hradec Králové route, SŽDC is planning a double-track expansion of the line between Velký Osek and Chlumec nad Cidlinou for a line speed of 160 km / h. Part of the project is also a new connecting line "Libická spojka" to bypass the Velký Osek station. The connection web is in Libice nad Cidlinou from the railway Znojmo-Nymburk branch and north of the D11 motorway in the existing branch office open out rabbit in the route Velký Osek-Trutnov. The distance would be shortened by around 4.5 kilometers in this relation. Work is expected to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2028.
