Horní Branná (German: Brennei ) is a municipality in Okres Semily , Liberecký kraj in the Czech Republic .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1359. In 1628 Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Waldstein bought the village of Horni Branná. He left it to the Count of Harrach as a feudal village. Comenius met the Protestant writer Christine Poniatovska here in 1628 . Like many other expelled fellow believers, Johann Amos Comenius then fled to the north, to Saxony, Silesia and Lissa (Poznan). The Catholic pressure of faith against the Protestant Bohemians pushed further and further north. 1629 had to z. B. the city council of Arnau forcibly become Catholic. However, Horni Branná was still Protestant. Until 1654 the Protestant church in Branná was the place of worship for the Rochlitz Protestants, some of whom had escaped from Arnau. The von Wallenstein family allowed the evangelical faith in some of their rulers for a few more years through clever policies, including Horni Branná.
Community structure
The municipality Horní Branná consists of the districts Horní Branná (Brennei) and Valteřice (Waltersdorf) , which also form cadastral districts. Horní Branná also includes the Bohdaneč, Výsplachy, Hradsko, Končiny, Pod Hradem and Pilousek layers.
