Aloys Thomas Raimund Count Harrach (born March 7, 1669 in Vienna ; † November 7, 1742 ibid) was an Austrian statesman , diplomat , knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece and industrialist.

Life

Aloys von Harrach came from the noble family Harrach , his father was the Obersthofmeister Ferdinand Bonaventura I. Graf von Harrach (born July 14, 1637 in Karlsbad; † June 15, 1706 ibid). His older brother was Franz Anton von Harrach (1665–1727), Prince Archbishop of Salzburg . Aloys became imperial ambassador in Dresden in 1694 , served in the same function in Madrid from 1697 to 1700 , and was again in Dresden in 1711, afterwards on diplomatic missions in Berlin and Hanover .

In 1712 he initiated the re-establishment of a glassworks that had been abandoned due to lack of wood in the "new forest", later Neuwelt-Harrachsdorf (Starkenbach district, today's Harrachov ) with a concession to the glass master Elias Müller, initially with the production of plate, chalk and colored glass, which became an export success in 1750 through the export of crystal glass, plated glass, flint and composite glass.

From 1715 to 1742 Aloys von Harrach worked as land marshal in Lower Austria , from 1728 to 1733 as viceroy in the Kingdom of Naples , where he acquired many works of art that are now exhibited in the gallery in Rohrau Castle . From 1734 until his death, Count Harrach was a member of the Secret State Conference in Vienna.

As a major builder, he engaged the architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt several times for Prugg Castle in Bruck an der Leitha and for the Harrach Palace in Ungargasse in Vienna.

He was married to Marie Barbara von Sternberg († 1694/95) since April 22, 1691 . They had five children:

Alois Thomas Raimund married Anna Cäcilia von Thannhausen (born March 14, 1674; † February 15, 1721) for the second time . They had ten children:
