Count Ferdinand Bonaventura Anton von Harrach zu Rohrau and Thannhausen (born April 11, 1708 ; † January 28, 1778 in Vienna ) was an Austrian statesman , diplomat , knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece and a major industrialist.

Life

Ferdinand Bonaventura (II.) Anton was the youngest son of Aloys Thomas Raymund Count von Harrach and his second wife Anna Cäcilia von Thannhausen . He entered the civil service and soon became an Austrian court advisor and a real secret councilor. In October 1744 he was seconded as imperial commissary to the Salzburg archbishopric election. From 1745 to 1750 he was Land Marshal of Lower Austria . In October 1746 Maria Theresa sent him to the Congress of Breda as Minister Plenipotentiary . In August 1747, Count Harrach was appointed governor general of Lombardy . He mastered this difficult task and returned to Vienna in 1750, one reason was probably the death of his eldest brother Friedrich August von Harrach-Rohrau in 1749. Ferdinand Bonaventura was Knight of the Golden Fleece, State Conference Minister, Supreme President of Justice and, since January 1751, Imperial President of the Court Council.

Ferdinand Bonaventura Count von Harrach is the founder of the first linen goods factory in Moravia and Austrian Silesia on his Janowitz estate (Römerstadt district) in 1717 , and through locators , he initiated the influx of weavers from Northern Bohemia and Saxony . This brought about the founding of numerous localities, including Rosendorf (1746) and Harrachsdorf (1760). He set up spinning schools, intensified flax cultivation and achieved an economic upswing in the surrounding manors through the establishment of iron hammers and wire drawing mills.
