Kacanovy (German: Kazanow ) is a municipality in Okres Semily , Liberecký kraj in the Czech Republic and is located 4 km south of Turnov .

history

Until 1924 the village was called Vrcha and consisted of three settlements: Vrcha, Kacanovy and Radeč. This settlement disappeared in the middle of the 20th century . The first mention of Vrcha comes from 1514 , that of Radeč around 1543 . The village of Kacanovy first appeared in a document in 1615 .

The name of the village probably comes from the Italian word Casa Nuova (Nový dům, new house), as well as from the Kozákov semi-precious stones .

In the past, the locals worked in agriculture and forestry. Today most of the residents commute to Turnov, only a fraction of the population is still active in the agricultural sector. As everywhere in the country, the village is still struggling with a steady decline in population. At the first census in 1857 the village had 446 inhabitants, at the turn of the century 375, after the Second World War 266 and currently only 160 inhabitants.
