history

The first written mention of the village was in 1386 in connection with a Henricus de Cruh . At the beginning of the 15th century the village was divided into two parts. In 1406 Jarek von Mžan owned one part, while the other belonged to Oldřich von Kruh († 1415). Its seat was a small fortress with a courtyard that was located in the middle of the village anger . Later Kruh became part of the Štěpanice estate. When they were divided between Hynek von Waldstein on Jilemnice and Heník von Waldstein on Štěpanice, most of the village came under the rule of Jilemnice in 1492, while eight properties were subject to the rule of Kumburk .

Together with Jilemnice, Arnošt Jilemnický from Újezdec and Kůnice acquired most of the village in 1547. His son Záviš followed him in 1577. In 1637 Johann Wilhelm Harant von Polschitz and Weseritz bought the Jilemnice estate. In 1651 in the register of subjects of the Jilemnice manor there are 74 inhabitants for Kruh. In 1654 the Jilemnica share consisted of five farmers, seven cottagers and three gardeners, the Kumburk share consisted of five properties. In 1701 Franz Paul Harant von Polschitz and Weseritz sold Jilemnice with all accessories to Ferdinand Bonaventura Imperial Count von Harrach . In 1770 the village consisted of 68 houses. In 1790 there were 67 houses in Horní Kruh, nine of which belonged to Kumburk. In 1804 the village had grown to 122 houses. In 1835 Kruh had 619 inhabitants and consisted of 91 houses, a school, a mill and a stately hunter's house. This includes the Kumburker share, which comprised eleven houses with 73 residents. The division between the Jilemnice and Kumburk dominions lasted until the middle of the 19th century. In 1848 both parts were united to form a community. The village has been parish since Roztoky u Jilemnice .

After the abolition of patrimonial Kruh formed from 1850 a political municipality in the district administration Jilemnice. 32 people died in a cholera epidemic in Kruh in October 1866. In 1871 the Austrian Northwest Railway opened on the Chlumetz-Parschnitz railway east of the village . In 1890 there were 1241 Czech-speaking residents in the village's 162 houses. In 1921 the settlements of Nouzov and Žebrna as well as the single strata Hlaváčova chalupa, Bušákovy domky, U Sasků, Skalský, Kočárkova chalupa and Fejfarův statek belonged to the municipality of Kruh . At that time there were three ponds in Kruh, a limestone quarry, a basalt quarry and a sandstone quarry were also operated. In 1930 the community had 1,016 inhabitants, in 1950 there were only 763. After the abolition of the Okres Jilemnice, the community was assigned to the Okres Semily at the end of 1960 . In 2002 Kruh had 501 inhabitants.
