Semily ( German Semil ) is a town in Okres Semily in the Czech Republic . It belongs to the Liberecký kraj region and has about 9,000 inhabitants.
history
The city of Semily was founded in the 14th century near a fortress. From 1542 it was owned by the Smiřický von Smiřice family , and in 1622 it came to the Wallenstein estate . Then different owners took turns.
With the construction of the south-north German connecting line , Semily was connected to the railway in 1855. In the second half of the 19th century a center of the textile industry was established here.
