Location of the community of Schauenburg in the Kassel district | ||
Schauenburg is a municipality in the northern Hessian district of Kassel . The municipal administration is located in the district of Hoof .
geography
location
Schauenburg is located in the Habichtswälder Bergland southwest of Kassel in the Hoofer Pforte , a valley between the Habichtswälder ridges of the High Habichtswald (northeast) and Langenberge (south).
Particularly noteworthy is the location in the Habichtswald Nature Park , which offers a high degree of leisure opportunities. The Hessencourrier trains run through this nature park and through Naumburg . In addition, Schauenburg is on the German Fairy Tale Route .
The upper reaches of the Bauna flows through the districts of Hoof and Elgershausen , into which the Firnsbach flows between the two villages . The Ems rises above the district of Breitenbach and then flows through Breitenbach.
Community structure
The large community is an amalgamation of the formerly independent communities Breitenbach , Elgershausen , Elmshagen , Hoof and Martinhagen , which now function as districts.
Neighboring communities
Schauenburg borders in the north on the municipality of Habichtswald (district of Kassel), in the east on the independent city of Kassel , in the south on the city of Baunatal (district of Kassel), the municipality of Edermünde and the city of Niedenstein (both in the Schwalm-Eder district ), as well in the west to the municipality of Bad Emstal and the cities of Wolfhagen and Zierenberg (all three in the district of Kassel).
history
In the Middle Ages and long afterwards, all districts were small, agricultural villages. The increasing industry in Kassel during the second half of the 19th century was accompanied by a slow upward development, which was further facilitated by the construction of the Kassel-Naumburg small railway .
The proximity to the Volkswagen plant in Baunatal also contributed significantly to the economic upturn.
Church building
On August 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities of Elgershausen and Hoof were merged to form the new municipality of Schauenburg. On December 31, 1971, the community of Hoof incorporated the neighboring communities of Breitenbach, Elmshagen and Martinhagen. Local districts were established for all former municipalities .
Origin of name
The community owes its name to the ruins of the Schauenburg castle , which lies to the west or above the district of Hoof , where the Counts of Schauenburg ruled over the Bauna valley in the Middle Ages .
religion
Protestant parishes from Breitenbach, Elgershausen, Hoof and Martinhagen are organized in the general association of Schauenburg. In Elgershausen there is also the Catholic branch church St. Franziskus von Assisi and it is possible to take part in the services of the Catholic parishes of Baunatal and Kassel - Oberzwehren . In addition to the two main churches, there is also the New Apostolic Church in Schauenburg, the Turkish-Islamic Congregation and the Jehovah's Witnesses . There is also the regional church community Martinhagen and the surrounding area, which offers a diverse community life.
