Ralf Salzmann (born February 6, 1955 in Kassel ) is a former German long-distance runner .

The policeman was German marathon champion five times in a row from 1980 to 1984 , he started for the LG Frankfurt . In 1984 he qualified with a course record that still exists today in the Bienwald Marathon for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , where he finished 18th in the marathon.

  • 1984 18th place at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the marathon in 2:15:29 h
  • 1986 fourth place in the marathon at the European Athletics Championships in Stuttgart (2:11:41 h)
  • 1988 personal best of 2:10:10 h in the Tokyo International Men's Marathon
  • 1988 German champion in the 10,000 meter run in 29: 01.53 min
  • 1988 23rd place at the Olympic Games in Seoul in the marathon in 2:16:54 h

With his performance achieved in 1980, Ralf Salzmann would have qualified for the Olympic Games in Moscow. However, he was denied participation due to the Olympic boycott. He is the seventh fastest German over the marathon distance (as of January 2017).

Others

Ralf Salzmann lives in Kassel today and still occasionally takes part in runs and celebrity races. Ralf Salzmann was appointed ambassador for this event for the new edition of the Kassel Marathon .
