Manfred Steffny (born August 14, 1941 in Trier ) is a former German long-distance runner . In addition to his job as publisher and editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine "Spiridon-Laufmagazin" , he is active as a trainer and leader of running seminars. In addition to the bestseller “Marathon Training”, Manfred Steffny has written various books on the subject of running.

Athletic career

  • 1964–1968: Regular participation in the German championships over 10,000 meters
  • 1968 Olympic marathon participant in Mexico City - 17th place 2: 31: 23.8 h
  • 1971 European Marathon Championships in Helsinki - 25th place 2: 24: 05.6 h
  • 1972 Olympic marathon participant in Munich - 31st place 2: 24: 25.4 h

During his running career he achieved a personal best of 2:16:45 h in the marathon. After the end of his running career, Manfred Steffny took part in numerous competitions, where he achieved good placements within his age group (e.g. Munich Marathon on October 15, 2000 - third place in the M55 in 3:02:45 h net).

Others

After his running career, he trained his younger brother Herbert Steffny , who started a comeback as a marathon runner in 1983.
