The Hoofer Pforte in the north Hessian district of Kassel is a natural area of the Habichtswälder Bergland . It runs mainly along the upper reaches of the Bauna in a north-west-south-east direction, is about 7 km long and 2 km wide, largely free of forests, and its main mountain is the Schauenburger Burgberg ( 499.9 m above sea level ). It is named after the Hoof district of Schauenburg .
geography
location
The Hoofer gate is located in the Habichtswald Nature Park . It accompanies the Bauna , which flows in a north-west-south-east direction through Hoof and Elgershausen , both parts of the municipality from Schauenburg , to the Altenritte district of Baunatal . The Baunsberg rises here , a southern branch of the Hohe Habichtswald north of the gate , directly at the transition from the gate to the Kassel basin ; at the same time the Bauna, into which the Lützel and Leisel flow shortly afterwards , flows into the basin landscape. Inside the gate, the Bauna overcomes a difference in altitude of almost 200 m - from around 420 (north of Hoof) to almost 230 m above sea level. NHN (near Altenritte).
To the south and south-west of the gate rise the Langenberge , the northern foothills of which protrude into the gate. In the extreme west, the Habichtswälder valley is followed by another valley valley, which extends the north-west of the gate in northern directions; its southern part, the Breitenbacher Mulde , forms a clear demarcation from the hilltops of the Hinterhabichtswälder to the west .
The elevations accompanying the gate extend the ridge of the Langenberge to the north and lie on the watershed of Bauna in the east and Ems in the west, which is part of the Fulda - Diemel watershed .
Natural allocation
The Hoofer gate forms in the natural environment feature unit group West Hessian mountain and lowering land (no. 34) in the main unit Habicht forests mountains (342) and in the sub unit High Habichtswald and Langenberg (342.0) the natural environment Hoofer gate (342.01). To the north the landscape turns into the natural area of Hoher Habichtswald (342.00) and to the south into the natural area of Langenberg (342.02). In the north-west the natural area Zierenberger Grund (342.11) and in the west the natural area Breitenbacher Mulde (342.10) join, both of which belong to the subunit Habichtswälder Basin (342.1). To the southeast, the landscape along the Bauna falls into the subunit Kassel Basin (343.3), which is part of the main unit West Hessian Basin (343).
mountains
The elevations of the Hoofer Pforte include along the Fulda-Diemel watershed viewed from northwest to southeast - with a height in meters (m) above sea level (NHN):
- Lindenberg (485.3 m)
- Great Schönberg (482.8 m)
- Little Schönberg (442 m)
- Burgberg (499.9 m)
Traffic and walking
The federal motorway 44 runs through the Hoofer Pforte between the junctions Zierenberg and Kassel- Bad Wilhelmshöhe in a north-west-south-east direction , which is laid out on the southern flank of the Hohe Habichtswald, roughly along the border of this low mountain range and natural area to the gate. At the last-mentioned junction there is a connection to the state road 3215, which as part of the former federal road 520 runs roughly in a west-east direction as another main traffic axis through the gate and the local community of Schauenburg.
The Kassel – Naumburg railway , on which the Hessencourrier museum railway runs, runs through the gate . The Hessencourrier cycle path runs parallel to this .
The hiking trails that pass through or cross the gate include: Baunapfad , Ederseeweg , Habichtswaldsteig , Herkulesweg and Kassel-Steig .
