Bad Wilhelmshöhe is a district of Kassel ( Northern Hesse , Germany ). The district has been a state-approved spa and Kneipp spa since 2002 .
Known internationally Bad Wilhelmshöhe is mainly due to the Habichtswald lying Wilhelmshöhe mountain park , where the Kassel water games take place and its special charm than resort to be a part of the city of Kassel.
geography
location
Bad Wilhelmshöhe is located in the west of Kassel in northern Hesse at the foot of the Habichtswald. It is considered a preferred residential area. In the northwest and north it borders on the districts belonging to Harleshausen and in the northeast on Kirchditmold . To the east of the Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe train station are the districts of Vorderer Westen , Wehlheiden , and further south Süsterfeld-Helleböhn and Brasselsberg .
Townscape
The largest part of the Wilhelmshöhe district is taken up by extensive and wooded areas of the Hohe Habichtswald ; thus Bad Wilhelmshöhe has a share in the Habichtswald Nature Park , in which the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is located. The actual (eastern) part of the Kassel district is mostly densely built. The original and historical district of Wahlershausen and Rammelsberg is characterized by village buildings and old half-timbered houses, with meadows and arable land in between. The Drusel flows through the district below the tram depot until it is piped at the Federal Social Court . On the southern side of Wilhelmshöher Allee, which once linked the city and park palace, resembling the complex of the Berlin Residence, are the Wilhelminian-style quarters with glamorous front gardens and some splendid eclectic features along Landgraf-Karl-Straße.
The highest elevation of the area belonging to Bad Wilhelmshöhe is the wooded Hohe Gras ( 614.8 m above sea level ) in the Hohen Habichtswald.
Neighboring communities
At the extreme western border of the area belonging to Bad Wilhelmshöhe, the district within the Habichtswald borders between the Hohen Gras and the restaurant Zum Silbersee on the municipality of Habichtswald, to which the restaurant belongs, whereby the border is located directly at the restaurant. Between the Hohe Gras and the Kleiner Herbsthaus mountain , it comes up to Schauenburg , which is located south of the Habichtswald community.
Local council election
The turnout in the 2016 local council election was 56.57%.
Attractions
Sights are the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in the Habichtswald with the Hercules on the Karlsberg as well as the Wilhelmshöhe Castle and the Löwenburg , both of which are located on the eastern slope of the mountain - the location of the Kassel water games .
At the height of the castle, not far from the ballroom and the large greenhouse, is the castle hotel built in the 1950s ; Back then, it was the first house on the square well into the present day. From the 1990s to 2006, a casino from the State of Hesse revived the restored castle hotel. Today it is a matter of determining the listed value of the building and preparing for further development or de-construction. In addition to the hotels "Hessenland" at Wilhelmshöher Tor and "Reiss" at the main train station in the city center, the castle hotel is also one of the representatives of modernist reconstruction.
In the built-up area of the district there is the Christ Church and the remains of the former domain, but also various private properties since the early days - for example in the district of Mulang.
Districts
Mulang
The villa district Mulang is a settlement in the Bad Wilhelmshöhe district. It borders directly on the Wilhelmshöhe mountain park.
There are two different reasons for the naming. On the one hand, it is assumed that the name referred to the hunting ground of a Chinese emperor ("Mulan"), which took place in the course of the enthusiasm for China ( chinoiserie ) in the 18th century. On the other hand, the naming is justified by the fact that there was also a mill in the small settlement that now makes up the core of the Mulang. The French name “Moulin” has since been pronounced as “Mulang” by the people of Kassel.
Wahlershausen
The formerly independent village of Wahlershausen, which is located immediately northwest of the Wilhelmshöhe train station, directly north of Wilhelmshöher Allee and below Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, was incorporated into the city of Kassel on April 1, 1906. It is partly traversed by the Drusel.
It was first mentioned as Warolfeshusen in a document from Hasungen Monastery in 1123.
The "Zoo am Rammelsberg", founded in 1978, is located in the western part of Wahlershausen. This zoo, which consists mainly of small animals, is home to around 100 species.
Marbachshöhe
The Marbachshöhe is a former military area that has been converted into a residential area. It is located on the western edge of Wilhelmshöhe and can be reached by bus and train from Wilhelmshöhe station in two minutes. The area is characterized by former barracks, which are now inhabited, as well as some row houses. The center of Marbachshöhe is Rohrbachplatz, this place is used for basketball, skateboarding and other activities. In addition, some small arts and crafts and a large technology park have settled. The Marbachshöhe borders on the Marbachsgraben, an idyllic small nature reserve.
economy
The Wilhelmshöhe depot of the Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft has been located in the area of the Kurhessen-Therme , north of Wilhelmshöher Allee and below the Bergpark, since 1877 . The “main fleet” of trams is stationed here next to the Sandershäuser Strasse depot, where the regiotrams and buses are housed, and they are also repaired here in the workshops.
The Hessischer Rundfunk has a television studio in Bad Wilhelmshöhe and broadcasts the radio program hr4 from there . The studio was founded in 1952 and has been expanded with a new building on the grounds of the estate since the mid-1990s. There was a pony farm there in the 1980s.
The nationwide active financial services company Plansecur has had its architecturally remarkable headquarters in Bad Wilhelmshöhe since 1997 at the confluence with Heinrich-Schütz-Allee. Not far away is the head office of the former EAM (Elektrizitätsaktiengesellschaft Mitteldeutschland), since the privatization e.on.
The Kurhessen-Therme is a thermal , fun and adventure, in 1983 after a successful Sole - deep drilling south of the William Allee opened on the edge of the mountain park Wilhelmshöhe.
The district captivates with its variety of owner-managed shops that have come together to form the largest interest group of business people in the city, the IGW interest group Bad Wilhelmshöhe. There is also a post office at the KVG turning loop at Rolandstrasse .
Waters
Bad Wilhelmshöhe is traversed by the Drusel , which rises in the Habichtswald and flows through, among other things, the Wilhelmshöher districts of Mulang and Wahlershausen, after which it turns towards the west of the Fulda . Ponds - artificially created still waters - are located in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe ; these are, among others, the Asch , the Fontänenteich (place of the fountain of the Kassel water games) and the Schlossteich (also called Lac ).
Transport links
The completely straight in east-west direction running Wilhelm Allee , which below the castle Wilhelmshöhe starts, is the dominant main thoroughfare of the neighborhood, which as one of Kassel's main axes partly magnificently laid out east to the Kassel center and the city leads. The western end of this avenue merges over Tulpenallee into Rasenallee , which leads north through Harleshausen and through the municipality of Ahnatal to Wilhelmsthal Castle in Calden ; from there further roads lead to Kassel-Calden Airport .
The feeder roads to a total of three motorways branch off from Wilhelmshöher Allee. You can use this to get to the Kassel-Bad Wilhelmshöhe junction (on Konrad-Adenauer- Strasse in the Brasselsberg district ) on the A 44 , which can be used to travel west to the Ruhr area and east to the A 7 and A 49 .
Via the Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe train station , which is also a stopping point for various ICE lines, there is a connection to the Deutsche Bahn rail network . There are also numerous public transport connections ( KVG and NVV ) that can be used to get to inner-city destinations and locations in neighboring regions.
