Philippinenhof-Warteberg is a district of the city of Kassel, divided into two parts, with around 4000 inhabitants. It is considered a purely residential area, which is characterized by housing estates, cooperative rental housing construction and some high-rise buildings.
location
In the direction of the city of Vellmar is the Von-Trott-zu-Solz settlement, further towards North Holland is the Philippinenhof settlement with the Hegelsberg in the far north of Kassel. In the south, the place has the district of North Holland as a neighbor. In the west lies the village of Niedervellmar, in the north Simmershausen and in the east Ihringshausen .
Philippinenhof
history
The Philippinenhof itself was once an estate. Landgrave Friedrich II had the Philippinenhof colony founded in 1778 in the far north of the Kassel district. In 1895 the population only counted 228 inhabitants in 22 houses due to the poor land yields. The simple mud houses built in the 1920s were replaced by new buildings between 1971 and 1973, resulting in 344 apartments.
Infrastructure
At the Philippinenhof is the primary school on waiting mountain, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 23, 2007. Two day-care centers (Ahnabreite and Philippinenhof) and two parishes of St. Laurentius (Catholic) and Zion (Protestant), as well as the comprehensive school at Hegelsberg are further facilities. A bus line (28) connects the district with Kassel.
Waiting mountain
The settlement development extended to the Warteberg. The waiting mountain settlement was first built there in the 1930s. The GWG settlement followed in 1935/36 and the Adam-von-Trott-zu-Solz settlement from 1958 to 1964, where mainly refugees from the Sudetenland and Poland settled.
Sights, leisure and events
- In the Von-Trott-zu-Solz settlement there is a monument to Adam von Trott zu Solz in a small forest in the direction of Vellmar.
- The settlement also has a bunker, where a "bunker festival" with barbecues and cozy get-togethers is held every year.
