Jungfernkopf is one of 23 districts of the north Hessian city of Kassel ( Hesse , Germany ).

geography

The Jungfernkopf district is located in the north of Kassel. It is bounded in this direction by the border to Vellmar , a neighboring town, into which the development merges seamlessly. To the east of the district meets - beyond the ICE - high-speed line Hannover -Kassel- Würzburg - at the district Rothenditmold . In the southeast, south, southwest and west it borders on the Harleshausen district , to which the Geilebach , which touches the Jungfernkopf district in the south, forms a natural demarcation.

Townscape

The largest part of the mostly densely built-up but nevertheless abundantly greened district of Jungfernkopf is occupied by the elongated ridge of the partly densely wooded Jungfernkopf, a range of hills that is 225 m high on average and sloping from west to east . In the south of the district there are some areas of the so-called field camp with meadows and arable land , which meet the Geilebach mentioned above. In the extreme northwest of the district and thus north of the street Am Ziegenberg or east of the Helmarshäuser Straße , a new building area has been built since the mid-1990s with an already completed shopping center, a Tegut supermarket and a Penny discounter . In the extreme south-east of the district there are numerous allotments at a Deutsche Bahn repair shop .

From June 2011 a pedestrian bridge (at the level of the Am Kiefernweg street ) and an underpass (at the level of the Waldecker Straße for the Wegmannstraße - Eisenbahnweg - Schenkebier Stanne road axis ) will be built directly northeast of the Kassel-Jungfernkopf stop on the Kassel – Warburg railway line built. The estimate for this construction project was 6 million euros. After its completion, one of the last hand-operated level barriers in Hesse, which was located at the previous level crossing directly southwest of the stop, ceased its service in November 2012.

history

General

The Jungfernkopf district was created in 1981 through the separation of the Wegmannspark , Jungfernkopf , Osterberg and Nordend districts from Harleshausen. The name of the district comes from the Jungfernkopf ridge, the name of which probably comes from a nunnery that is said to have stood on its hilltop.

Timetable

  • Jungfernkopf has had its own Protestant parish since 1951 , which is located in the Jungfernkopf Church ( Waldecker Straße ).
  • The Jungfernkopf primary school was opened in 1952 and has existed as an independent school since 1957.
