geography

course

The mostly rivulet-like Jungfernbach rises in the western part of the Kassel district Jungfernkopf , which lies on and on the partly park-like forested Jungfernkopf, the southeast slope of the Vellmarer Osterberg ( 258.2  m ) in Kassel . Its source is in the sewer system, about under the intersection of the streets Kornblumenweg / Am Ziegenberg at around ( 221  m above sea  level ). A street running parallel to Am Ziegenberg in the residential area above its original location, which has been built since around 2000, is called Zum Jungfernbach .

The catchment area above the origin of the Jungfernbach extends along the Am Ziegenberg road in a north-westerly direction up to the Lambert hilltop (approx.  292  m ) in the north-eastern foothills of the Hohen Habichtswald .

The Jungfernbach, which already flows in sections in the sewer system in its upper reaches, runs roughly in a west-east direction through areas of the district of the same name located south below the Jungfernkopf. The creek bed, which is also located above ground between houses in the district, is often dry. The brook flows roughly along the street Am Ziegenberg and then a little southwest parallel to Waldecker Straße , passing the Jungfernkopf church, which was inaugurated in 1954 (approx.  201  m ) at brook kilometer 2.1, directly southwest.

At the end of Waldecker Straße , the Jungfernbach first crosses under the Eisenbahnweg road running in front of Kopf at a height of 189  m and then - near the Jungfernkopf RegioTram stop, which opened in 2008  - at kilometer 1.6 the embankment of the Kassel – Warburg railway line . A few meters southwest of the brook there, Waldecker Straße leads through a railway embankment bridge, which was opened in 2012, and then directly meets the Schenkebier Stanne street .

Then the Jungfernbach runs southeast of the Jungfernkopf and north to northeast of the Rothenberg ( 207.3  m ) a few meters north along the Schenkebier Stanne road through the Jungfernwiese floodplain, lined with forest, built-up area and allotment gardens , where a nameless trickle at about 184  m altitude flows in from the northwest and forms a pond in the estuary .

Then the Jungfernbach - disappearing again in the sewer system - between the brook kilometers 1.1 and 0.9 in the sewer system of the Schenkebier Stanne at a height of about 175  m , crosses numerous railway bridges, over which the high-speed line Hanover-Kassel-Würzburg leads. Between the bridges, the flowing water passes the Wau-Mau-Insel animal shelter, which is located directly north of this road and which worked closely with the animal program herrchen sucht, which was broadcast from 1975 to 2008 by hr television .

Immediately after these bridges the Jungfernbach leaves the area of the Kassel district Jungfernkopf and continues to flow into the sewer system of the Schenkebier Stanne in the northern part of the district Rothenditmold , passing through the Mittelfeld plant of the Henschel-Werke to the north; The Mercedes-Benz plant in Kassel is located directly southwest of it .

A few meters northeast of the Mittelfeld plant , the Jungfernbach passes under the creek kilometer 0.4 at the intersection ( 166.8  m ) of the Schenkebier Stanne - Bunsenstrasse and Holländische Strasse , which is a common section in this section, on the border between the Rothenditmold and North Holland districts the federal highways 7  and  83 and connects Kassel and Vellmar with each other; The public transport stop Holländische Straße is at the intersection . From then on, the stream in the North Holland district runs in the sewer system of Bunsenstrasse . He then passes under the last-mentioned street near the intersection ( 160.5  m high) of this street with Niedervellmarer Straße.

A few meters below it opens the Jungfernbach after leaving the municipal sewer to about 156  m height in the zoom there from the direction north-northwest and flowing along the border of the Kassel Areas North Holland and Philippinenhof-Warteberg extending Fulda influx ancestor , shortly afterwards the Gahrenbergstraße crossed under.

Natural allocation

The Jungfernbach flows entirely in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessisches Bergland ( West Hessisches Berg- und Senkenland ; No. 34) and in the main unit West Hessian Depression (343) through the subunit Kassel Basin (343.3).

Landscape protection area

Between the Kassel – Warburg railway and the railway bridges, over which the high-speed line Hanover – Kassel – Würzburg runs, the Jungfernbach flows in the Bachaue of the Jungfernwiese through parts of the landscape protection area (LSG) City of Kassel ( CDDA no. 378517; 1995 designated; 19.8386 km²), in which its mouth is located.
