Bundesstrasse 83
The federal highway 83 (abbreviation: B 83 ) is a federal highway in the German federal states of Lower Saxony , North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse . It leads from Bückeburg (Lower Saxony) via Hameln , Höxter (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Kassel to Bebra (both in Hesse).
history
Today's B 83 crosses numerous formerly independent countries in which the street names were very different.
In the Electorate of Hesse , the street north of Grebenstein, classified as second-class main street , was called Bremer Straße in 1831 , between Grebenstein and Kassel as Holländische Straße and south of Kassel as Hersfelder Straße .
course
The B 83 begins at Bückeburg on the B 65 . The Weser accompanies you from Hessisch Oldendorf via Hameln and Höxter to Bad Karlshafen . From there, the Diemel runs alongside it to Trendelburg , where it is replaced by the Esse . After overcoming the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed near Espenau , it crosses Vellmar and from Kassel and via Melsungen the Fulda is your companion to Bebra, where the B 83 ends at the B 27 . The direction of the road is always upstream.
details
From the connection to Schaumburg near Hessisch Oldendorf up to and including the Wehrbergen bypass , which was completed in 2009, the B 83 has been expanded for around twelve kilometers in the 2 + 1 system with an experimental green-marked median. The Steinbergen and Grohnde bypasses are classified in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 as a project of urgent need.
The B 83 between Brevörde and Pegestorf has been fully closed since May 18, 2018, and the closure could take a few years. The point of contention is a rocky slope that is brittle and actually requires safety measures, but which is located in an FFH area where, among other things, the very rare Russian bear has settled. Safety measures are therefore not permitted under EU law, which would require the relocation of the entire B 83 to the other bank of the Weser, including two bridges.
In Höxter , the B 64 / B 83 no longer runs on its original and very narrow route right through the city center via Stummrigestrasse and Markstrasse, but over a relief road that lies further west. Despite the generous expansion with wide edge and turning strips at the intersections, the flow of traffic is still very slow. This new line also runs through the city itself and has several traffic lights at which traffic jams again and again. One of these crossings is also the beginning of the B 239 , which continues from here to Detmold. Since there is a direct access for the fire brigade to this busy road in Höxter , there are signs here that warn the traffic of the emergency vehicles in the event of an emergency. In 2009, the expansion of the inner-city B 83 began. It was expanded to four lanes by 2011 , which necessitated a shift in the noise barrier.
In Godelheim , the B 64 meets the B 83 at an inner-city junction and runs together with the B 64 on an identical route after passing through Höxter, past the Tonenburg and Albaxen to Stahle and Holzminden .
Between Herstelle ( Beverungen ) in North Rhine-Westphalia and Deisel ( Trendelburg ) in Hesse, the 4.5 km long bypass of Bad Karlshafen in North Hesse has been under construction from autumn 2017 until the end of 2021 ; With its completion, the length of the B 83 will be shortened by 7.4 km. The route will contain a total of seven bridges; The northernmost of these is a green bridge with an integrated overpass and the southernmost, which will lead in Hesse over the small Diemel tributary Knickgraben, is the longest at 141 m.
Hofgeismar has had a bypass on the B 83 since November 8, 2013, including the Essetal bridge . Between Grebenstein and Espenau it is partially developed with three lanes (2 + 1 system).
From Espenau- Schäferberg to the city of Kassel , it runs together with the B 7 and in this part has four lanes with a median.
South of Kassel, the B 83 has a gap, because it is interrupted at the A 49 at the Kassel-Waldau junction, and then from the Guxhagen junction of the A 7 through Guxhagen - past the Breitenau monastery - and through Körle .
The B 83 then follows the Fulda valley through Melsungen , Morschen , Alheim , Rotenburg ad Fulda to Bebra , where there is a connection to the B 27 .
