history
Röhrenfurth is first mentioned in 1182 as "Rorefort". The place was a fiefdom of the Hersfeld monastery and since 1182 in the possession of the noble family von Röhrenfurth , who belonged to the old Hessen knighthood . At Röhrenfurth, the important Fulda crossing had to be secured for the Landgraves of Hesse , and the Lords of Röhrenfurth were reliable feudal men of the Landgraves. The last male offspring of the family, Eckhard II von Röhrenfurth, was Hereditary Marshal of Hesse from 1428 until his death in 1432 , as the successor to his father-in-law Rörich II von Eisenbach. Eckhard, who left no sons, was succeeded in this position by his son-in-law Herrmann von Riedesel , who was married to Eckhard's daughter Margaretha and who also inherited Eckhard's possessions.
On March 1, 1971, Röhrenfurth became a district of Melsungen as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
