The pit is an 18.1 km long orographic left or northwest tributary of the Weser in the district of Höxter , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).
course
The headwaters of the Grube brook lies northeast of Hohehaus and south of Löwendorf , both districts of Marienmünster . The pit flows through Hohehaus between Eilversen and Bremerberg , then through Ovenhausen and Lütmarsen to Höxter and from there, after crossing under a common section of federal roads 64 and 83, into the Weser .
The current course of the pit is the result of a centuries-long dispute between the city and the monastery over the water rights to the Schelpe and the pit. Originally, the pit flowed as far as Corvey Monastery . However, once the water had flowed through the city, it was no longer usable for the monastery. Therefore, the Schelpe, which previously flowed north of Corvey into the Weser, was diverted. The course of the pit was shortened, it was already routed to the old town of Höxter in the Weser. The current situation of the brooks was essentially regulated by a contract between the city and the monastery from 1482.
Sewerage and watermills
The creek Grube was partly artificially channeled by the monks Corveys and leads past the three Höxters mills , the Mönchemühle , the Obermühle and the Untermühle.
