history

Church in high house

The village of Hohehaus goes back to the former place Dungen . Dungen is mentioned as early as 825 in the Corvey tradition, the monastery register of donations. At that time Corvey Monastery received several donations and had a main courtyard here, which included 22 Hufen land. In addition to Corvey, the Marienmünster Abbey must also have acquired properties here very early, because Abbot Hermann von Mengersen gave half of his income there to the Lords of Everstein and his son Otto for six years in order to protect and defend the monastery property there. In 1360 the Corveyer estates with the church fief are proven as property of Count Hermann von Pyrmont . This she now handed over to the von Kanne family as a direct fief .

A border dispute arose between the Count of Pyrmont and the Corvey Abbey around the 16th century, which was settled on June 15, 1535, so that Dungen fell to the Kanne family. In 1595 Dungen is still called a village. In a document from 1602, a new place name appears by saying: Dorf zu Dungen, so called itzo dat Hagehauß . This means something like dung, the house in the forest . Later only the name Hagehaus was used and after 1660 only the current name Hohehaus appears .

Together with Löwendorf , Hohehaus suffered particularly badly from the consequences of various armed conflicts. The Eversteiner Feud (1403–1407), the Thirty Years War (1618–1648) and the Seven Years War (1756–1763) should be mentioned, which led to the almost complete destruction of the places.

With the law on the reorganization of the Höxter district of December 2, 1969 to January 1, 1970, Hohehaus was merged with the other twelve municipalities of the Vörden district to form the town of Marienmünster.
