history

Münsterbrock emerged in the 16th century from the abandoned villages of Katshern , later Ketsen and Asserinchusen . These former villages were already the property of the Marienmünster Abbey. The village of Katshern was between the Grevenburg and the village of Sommersell. The name Münsterbrock appears for the first time next to the name Ketsen around 1527 . In the history books of the abbots of Marienmünster it says: Anno 1527, May 15th, the day before the martyr Bonifatius, we accepted the first farmers in Ketsen / Münsterbrock. According to a contract, the farmers from Münsterbrock had to do half of their labor from 1554 on the Oldenburg and the other half for the monastery. After secularization in 1803, the monastery property was sold by the Prussian state . Today five Fathers from the Order of the Passionists live in the abbey . They provide pastoral care to the surrounding communities and hospitals. Only a few hundred meters away is the still-preserved and inhabited residential tower of Oldenburg, built between 1373 and 1376.

With the law on the reorganization of the Höxter district of December 2, 1969, on January 1, 1970, Münsterbrock was merged with the other twelve municipalities of the Vörden district to form the town of Marienmünster.
