Mönchemühle Höxter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monk mill in the town of Höxter is the former mill of the Corvey monastery . It was first mentioned in 1324.

Until 1933 the mill was operated by an overshot water wheel , for this purpose the pit was diverted. From 1933 the mill was operated with stationary engines, after 1945 with two single-cylinder tar oil engines from the manufacturer Herford. These engines each made around 75 hp . Since then, the pit has been used for power supply by means of a Francis turbine . Today the electricity generated is fed into the grid. Until the 1970s, the electricity was used to supply the mill and the adjacent residential and farm buildings.

The currently still standing mill building was built in 1894, the mill was in operation until 1972 and was then shut down.

The facilities for the mill operation are no longer available because the mill house was converted into an office building in 1999.
