The federal highway 53 begins in Trier at the western bridgehead of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke and leads from there around the Trier districts of Biewer and Ehrang / Quint . The main road crossed the entire center of the Biewer district by April 16, 2007 and was only continued as a bypass road in Ehrang at the level of the freight center at Trier harbor . Since the Biewer-Pfalzel bypass was opened to traffic, the road runs completely without through-going through town to the town of Schweich . From there it accompanies the Moselle mostly on the left, sometimes on the right, as a riverside road via Bernkastel-Kues , Traben-Trarbach and Zell to Alf.
