Trier harbor
The port of Trier is an inland port on the Moselle in Trier . The carrier is the Trier Hafengesellschaft mbH , the shareholders are the city of Trier , the district of Trier-Saarburg and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
The port is located in the northern area of Trier in the area of the districts Ehrang and Pfalzel near the Moselle island Hahnenwehr .
The construction of the Trier port became possible with the completion of the Moselle canalization , so the Moselle port was opened in 1965 after a two-year construction period. An expansion of the port facility has also allowed the handling of containers since 1998 . Directly on the port area is a commercial and industrial area with an area of around 130 hectares and around 60 resident companies.
In 2005, the water-side cargo throughput exceeded the one million mark for the first time with around 1.085 million tons (t) . Mainly petroleum and mineral oil as well as ores and metal waste are handled. In 2015 only 887,000 t were handled, in 2014 it was 1.83 million t.
Due to the increasing cargo handling, the quay was expanded in 2011 .
There are transport links to Ehrang train station and the B 53 and B 52 federal highways . The closest motorways are the A 64 (towards Luxembourg ), the A 602 (towards Trier) and the A 1 (via the Moseltal motorway triangle ).
