The national highway 170 (abbreviation: B 170 ) is a German national highway in the Free State of Saxony . It begins in Dresden , the junction of the B 6 and B 97 federal highways on the A 4 , Dresden-Hellerau junction, and ends at Zinnwald-Georgenfeld on the border with the Czech Republic . Between the city center of Dresden and the federal border near Zinnwald in the Eastern Ore Mountains, it overcomes a height difference of over 700 meters over a length of around 50 kilometers. Most parts of the road have only one lane in each direction of travel, some uphill gradients are two-lane. It often leads directly through the towns, there are seldom bypasses. The steep sections at Possendorf and between Waldbärenburg and Altenberg are often difficult to negotiate uphill in winter; the downhill sections are only to be traveled with trucks with appropriate caution.
history
The Royal Saxon state road from Dresden via Dippoldiswalde and Altenberg (Erzgebirge) to Teplice ( Bohemia ) was built in the years 1842 to 1846 and released as Erzgebirgspass used Old Dresden to Teplitz Post Road from which about Pirna and Berggiesshuebel led. Until 1882 this street was used regularly by stagecoaches . After the opening of the Weißeritztalbahn , which had been running from Hainsberg via Dippoldiswalde to Schmiedeberg since November 1, 1882 , the post coach traffic to and from Dippoldiswalde was stopped.
On April 1, 1919, a bus line was opened from Dresden via Bannewitz and Possendorf to Dippoldiswalde, with the section between Dresden and Possendorf being served much more frequently. The section between Kipsdorf, Altenberg and Zinnwald has also been regularly served by a bus line since 1925 at the latest.
With the numbering of the long-distance road network introduced in 1932 , the road from Dresden to Teplitz-Schönau was still part of the long-distance road, later Reichsstraße 96 . This street was later given the independent name Reichsstraße 170 . Between 1938/1939 and 1945 the subsequent road connection from Teplitz via Theresienstadt to Prague and further via Benešov (Beneschau), Tábor , Soběslav (Sobieslau), Třeboň (Wittingau), Schrems , Horn (Lower Austria) to Stockerau was also designated as Reichsstraße 170. In the GDR it was called Fernverkehrsstrasse 170 (F 170) and, as European route 55, was one of the most important routes for traffic in the direction of ČSSR, Hungary and to Southeast Europe.
In 1977 the construction of a bridge to bypass Dippoldiswalde began , but this was interrupted and the bypass was completed between 1993 and 1995.
From 1989 the volume of traffic (especially truck traffic) via the "Zinnwald / Cinovec border crossing" had multiplied. To relieve the Osterzgebirge from the traffic on the federal highway 170, a special freight train for truck traffic was introduced in 1994. From September 25, 1994 to June 19, 2004, the “ Rollende Landstrasse ” connected the Dresden-Friedrichstadt station with the one in Lovosice in the Czech Republic , thereby bypassing both the Ore Mountains and the Bohemian Central Mountains on the Elbe Valley route. Ten trains ran in both directions every day, and one train carried up to 23 trucks.
In 2001 the new "Altenberg / Cinovec border crossing" was opened to relieve the Zinnwald-Georgenfeld area of traffic. For this purpose, the B 170 was relocated near Zinnwald and an underpass was built.
The flood in August 2002 damaged the B 170 between Dippoldiswalde and Altenberg, so that it was only partially passable for a few months. In this context, a relocation of the B 170 out of the Weißeritztal was discussed.
Great difficulties were every year during the winter months, as the weather conditions, the B for trucks, especially in the well-known 170 switchbacks between Waldbärenburg and Altenberg (eg Baukahre.) Often made impassable. In some cases, attempts were made to combine the trucks into “trains” and haul them to Altenberg using heavy equipment.
Since December 22, 2004 the federal highway 170 has crossed the A 17 at the junction Dresden-Südvorstadt. For this purpose, the B 170 ( Bergstrasse ) was expanded to four lanes between 2002 and 2005 between Dresden-Südhöhe and the motorway. The load from truck traffic increased sharply, so that residents and citizens' groups repeatedly blocked the road and demanded that long-distance truck traffic be blocked. In 2000 470 trucks drove daily through Schmiedeberg, in 2004 it was up to 3248 trucks per day. From March 15, 2006, the B 170 from Possendorf in the direction of the Czech Republic was closed to trucks over 12 t due to construction work.
Since the completion of the A 17 from Dresden in the direction of Prague on December 21, 2006, the B 170 between Possendorf and the Altenberg border crossing has been closed to through traffic over 7.5 t in both directions. The national road 170 was revoked the status of a European road in favor of the A 17.
Planning
The city of Dresden plans to relocate the federal highway out of the city center on the following route: ( A 4 ) AS Dresden-Neustadt - Washingtonstraße - Flügelwegbrücke - Emerich-Ambros-Ufer - Löbtauer Brücke - Nossener Brücke - Nürnberger Straße - Fritz-Foerster-Platz Then the street space of the federal highway in the inner city area, in particular on the Große Meißner Straße and the Neustädter Markt around the “ Golden Rider ”, is to be adapted to the surroundings and redesigned.
