The Ufa-Kristallpalast is a cinema building in downtown Dresden . It is located between Prager Strasse and St. Petersburger Strasse next to the round cinema .

The cinema opened on March 26, 1998 and has 2,668 seats in eight cinema halls spread over the five floors.

architecture

The design for the building was created in 1996 by the Viennese architecture firm Coop Himmelb (l) au . As an example of deconstructivism, the building stands in stark contrast to the surrounding prefabricated buildings that were built during the GDR era. The facade forms a contrast between concrete and glass architecture . The glass part of the outer cladding, which is held in place by a steel skeleton , creates a crystalline structure that gives the building its name. The glass extension is approx. 30 m high and has large, inclined facade surfaces. In order to be able to clean these, mountaineers, industrial climbers or workers at height are necessary.
