The federal highway 225 (abbreviation: B 225 ) is a German federal highway in the northern Ruhr area and leads from Bottrop-Kirchhellen via Marl to Recklinghausen .

history

The entire area between Dorsten and Recklinghausen belonged to secularization to Vest Recklinghausen and thus to Erzbistum Cologne . The unpaved overland route from Dorsten via Recklinghausen, Horneburg and Waltrop was at the same time the shortest connection between the Brandenburg Duchy of Kleve , the Brandenburg County of Mark and the capital Berlin . After the end of the Thirty Years' War , Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg set up a riding post between Wesel and Königsberg , which led via Dorsten and Recklinghausen.

Around 1788 the country road running further south between Bochum and Hamm was expanded into a paved artificial road ( Chaussee ), so that the then still agricultural region around Recklinghausen had to get along without paved roads until the middle of the 19th century.

It was not until the coal mining industry that the Recklinghausen district developed into a densely populated industrial landscape in the 20th century. Therefore, in the war year 1915 , the Vestische trams built a tram line along the road from Recklinghausen to Marl, which was extended to Dorsten in 1921. Around 1937 this well-developed country road was raised to Reichsstraße 225.

On May 29, 1960, the half-hourly tram line between Dorsten and Recklinghausen was switched to bus service. Today this line operates as express bus route 25 every half hour between Dorsten, Marl and Recklinghausen.

course

Since January 1, 2007, the B 225 begins on the A 31 at the Kirchhellen-Nord junction . (The section to Dorsten belonged to the B 223 up to this date ). In Dorsten, it leads around the city center for a short stretch and is connected to the B 224 (Raesfeld - Solingen) a little later . It crosses the A 52 at the Marl- Frentrop motorway exit , bends in Marl at the intersection with Breitenstraße almost at right angles to the east and then runs right through the historic center of Alt-Marl . Later it crosses Steinernkreuz , bypasses the Westviertel of Recklinghausen and forms the Recklinghausen / Herten double junction with the A43 in the west of Recklinghausen on Akkoallee .

The B 225 has a length of approx. 21 km.
