The federal road 45 (abbreviation: B 45 ) leads from Sinsheim to Wöllstadt .

The section between Groß-Umstadt and Höchst in the Odenwald was expanded as a trunk road in the years 1887–1889. In the 1930s, the numbering took place as Reichsstraße 45 , whereby various individual routes were combined. After some route changes and relocations to bypass roads, the B 45 is now 156 kilometers long and runs from south to north through the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Hesse .

course

The federal highway 45 begins in Sinsheim not far from the A 6 . From Neckargemünd via Hirschhorn to shortly before Eberbach , the main road runs along the Neckar and then crosses the Odenwald to Dieburg and then the Main Plain via Rödermark , Rodgau and Hanau . In Rodgau it is connected to the A 3 and in Hanau to the A 66 . It ends north of Hanau in Wöllstadt in the Wetterau , where it joins the B 3 .

From Neckargemünd to Eberbach , the route is identical to the B 37 .

Local authorities

The B 45 crosses the Rhine-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg and within it the cities and communities of Sinsheim , Zuzenhausen , Meckesheim , Mauer , Bammental , Neckargemünd and Eberbach .

With the transition to Hesse , the road reaches the Bergstrasse district , where Neckarsteinach and Hirschhorn are traversed. This is followed by the Odenwaldkreis with Oberzent , Erbach , Michelstadt , Bad König and Höchst . In the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, the B 45 touches Groß-Umstadt , Dieburg , Münster (Hesse) and Eppertshausen , and in the Offenbach district the cities Rödermark and Rodgau . In the Main-Kinzig district , Hanau and Nidderau are crossed and Bruchköbel is affected. Before the road reaches Wöllstadt in the Wetterau district , it leads through the Niddatal area.

Waters crossed

The B 45 crosses the Elsenz five times between Hoffenheim and Bammental . In addition, the Neckar in Neckargemünd and twice in Hirschhorn , the Mümling several times between Beerfelden and Höchst in the Odenwald and the Gersprenz in Münster (Hesse) are crossed. In Hanau follows the crossing of the Main and the Kinzig . After the Nidder in Nidderau , the last river to be crossed is the Nidda in Ilbenstadt .

history

Previous routes and names

The B 45 crosses the A 3 in Rodgau

Until the mid-1950s, the original route ran through all of the locations around it. From 1954, work began on building bypasses and relocating the route, for example in:

Replacements

The four-lane section Dieburg-Hanau was originally built and put into operation as the A 683 motorway from 1974 to 1979 , while the B 45 continued to take the old route through the inner-city areas. At the instigation of the affected municipalities, the A 683 was rededicated as the B 45 in the early 1980s and the old route was downgraded to rural, district and inner-city roads.

In June 2009 the construction (initially archaeological excavations) of the 9.5 km long bypass Nidderau , which had been planned for 20 years, began (project by Hessen Mobil : B 45 / B 521 OU Nidderau / Windecken and Nidderau / Heldenbergen ). The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the presence of State Secretary Ulrich Kasparick ( Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development ) on September 22nd, 2009 in the northern construction section ( B 521 , industrial area Nidderau Heldenbergen). In autumn 2014, the first two construction phases were completed and opened to traffic; the last construction phase on June 22, 2015.

State of development

The gradients of the B 45 at the roundabout between Höchst and Wiebelsbach have been prepared with three lanes for 4.9 km. Between Dieburg and Hanau-Steinheim, the federal road is 28.7 km and between Hanau-Nord and Bruchköbel 2.8 km with four lanes. The rest of the route (118.6 km) is two-lane, with short sections also three-lane.

Tourist routes

The B 45 is in parts identical to several holiday routes, for example from the Neckar valley to Michelstadt with the German Alps-Baltic Sea holiday route , between Hetzbach and Marbach in the Odenwald with Siegfriedstraße and from Erbach to Michelstadt with the Nibelungenstraße and the German half-timbered road . The latter corresponds to the course of the B 45 again from Groß-Umstadt to Dieburg.

Attractions

Many sights are on or near the B 45. The “Grafenrain” sand pit, a nature reserve, is where the lower jaw of Mauer was found , and there is also a Wall Museum in the mayor's office in Mauer.

The three castles above Neckarsteinach and Hirschhorn Castle above Hirschhorn am Neckar are well worth seeing along the route . A medieval settlement can be visited on the Dilsberg near Neckargemünd. In a prominent position above the road in the Gammelsbachtal is the Freienstein Castle and in earlier times secured the traffic route on the border of the County of Erbach .

The three-sleeper Beerfeld gallows from 1597 is located west of the city center on the Galgenberg on the state road in the direction of Airlenbach . The ten-arch Himbächel viaduct of the Odenwaldbahn can be seen near Ebersberg . The castle (with the German ivory museum ) and the harness racing track are the most famous sights in Erbach, in Michelstadt the medieval town hall and the Einhards basilica are worth a visit. A Roman villa can be visited as an open-air museum near Höchst in the Odenwald .

Also worth seeing are the historic town center of Groß-Umstadt as well as the castles and half-timbered houses in Dieburg , as well as the German goldsmith's house and the Philippsruhe Castle in Hanau. There is also the port square with monumental buildings from the 1920s directly on the street .

Scenic routes

Considered to be particularly scenic

  • the Neckar valley section between Neckargemünd and Eberbach as well
  • the Odenwald section between the Neckar valley and Groß-Umstadt.
